Pakistan‘s head coach Waqar Younis and captain Misbah-ul-Haq are not happy with the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to hold the National T20 Championship ahead of team’s upcoming Test series against Australia.
A source close to Waqar confirmed that he was not happy with the situation as he had told the board he wanted to have a conditioning camp for the players before the Australia series.
“Waqar wanted to have the conditioning camp for atleast two weeks before the team flew to Dubai around October 2nd but the board scheduled the National T20 event from September 17th to 28th leaving no time for any camp to be held,” the source said.
“Waqar was not pleased because it meant that the players he wanted to spend time with before the Australia series were busy with the national event.”
He said that even when Misbah had met with the PCB officials recently, had also complained about the fact that the board scheduled the domestic season without consulting the players and it resulted in a clash between domestic commitments and preparations for international series for the players.
“Misbah also told the cricket committee that they should also involve the main players before finalizing domestic events so that camps for international events could be given priority.”
A PCB official told PTI the board had no choice but to hold the national T20 this month due to the packed domestic calender and the World Cup 2015.
