Waqar Younis thanks PCB for extending contract as Pakistan coach

Waqar will be retained till Pakistan’s England tour scheduled to take place from July to September in 2016.

Pakistan head coach and former player Waqar Younis expressed his gratitude towards the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the board extended his contract till England Series. PCB president Shahryar Khan on Wednesday confirmed that Waqar will be retained till Pakistan’s England tour scheduled to take place from July to September in 2016. “There is no reason to change Waqar or the coaching staff and we will only review their performances and contracts after the England tour,” were Khan’s exact quotes and now Waqar, following the decision, has thanked the board. According to a report by thenewstribe.com, he said that he would like to see an India-Pakistan series happening during his coaching stretch. Pakistan has not been able to perform up to the mark lately and admitting the fact, Waqar said that he is aware of the degradation in performance but there are certain reasons behind that, the ban on Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal being one of the major ones. The Pakistan team is long suffering from their key players being banned, the most recent being the ban on their leggie Yasir Shah as he tested positive for a doping test.

He said that he feels the current Pakistan team is quite balanced now and is all set to produce some remarkable performances in the upcoming gala event of ICC World T2O 2016. The Pakistan team will travel to New Zealand on Sunday to play a series including three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
