Clean sweeping Sri Lanka ‘9-0’ across formats, India are set to welcome Australia once again, this time for limited-overs series. Earlier, the two sides had met for a 4-Test series that India won by 2-1. The limited-overs series begins from September with a practice match, which will be played between Board President XI and Australia in Chennai. BCCI announced the fixtures of the series and on Friday morning announced the squad for the warm-up game. Hemang Badani who coached TNPL’s Chepauk Super Gillies, is appointed as the coach for President XI. IPL stars like Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar have been selected in the squad.

Tamil Nadu’s Sundar and Raahil Shah are particularly gearing up for the Australia challenge. Sundar and Raahil believe their call-up was the recognition for their impressive performance in the domestic circuit. Raahil had claimed 22 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 4.24 in the limited-overs tournaments like Deodhar Trophy and Vijay Hazare. Sundar, on the other hand, has rubbed shoulders with Australian players like Steven Smith during IPL. Sundar was an instant hit picking crucial wickets at regular intervals for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Smith has even heaped praise on the youngster during the IPL days. Now, the off-spinner is looking forward to play against Smith.

“I’m glad to have got this opportunity. I have played a lot with Smith in the IPL with Pune. Now, I’m looking forward to playing against him. I’m also happy that people are looking at the performances from the Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophy,” Sundar told Cricbuzz.

As for Raahil, the warm-up is a way to boost his confidence ahead of the domestic season, “I was dropped from the Ranji playing XI after two games last season. I worked extremely hard on my fitness and bowling when I was on the sidelines. I see this selection as recognition for my performances in the last limited-overs tournaments. Also winning the title as a team will always open up more opportunities like these for our team players.”
