Wasim Akram escapes unhurt after unidentified gunmen shot at his car in Karachi

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram escaped an attack on his car by unidentified gunmen when he was passing by National Stadium in Karachi. The gunmen fired at Akram’s car on Karsaz Road near the stadium, but he escaped unhurt. The identity of the gunman is still unknown but Akram immediately called the police helpline and registered a complaint. Akram was part of the commentary team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Akram recently congratulated the Pakistan team and praised them for their excellent performance against Sri Lanka in the Island Nation. Akram was a little shaken up after the incident. After the incident, Akram said, ““I have noted down the vehicle’s number and given it to the police.” Akram has however denied that he received any threat calls or emails leading up to the event, according to tribune.com.pk.

Akram has represented Pakistan in 104 Tests and 356 One-Day Internationals (ODI) in a career lasting over 18 years. He has 414 wickets in Tests and 502 wickets in ODIs. He was no mug with the bat either, scoring well over 3,000 runs in the shorter format and close to the 3,000-run mark in the Test arena. Akram’s highest score in Tests is 257 not out, which he scored against Zimbabwe in 1996. Akram after his retirement, has taken up commentary as a full-time job and will look to continue that in the future as well. He was recently seen during the World Cup, where he would give his opinion on the matches. In 2013, Akram got married to his long time partner Shaniera Thompson, who is an Australian.
