WATCH: Ajinkya Rahane raises bat on 97*; Suresh Raina gestures three more to go
Captain Ajinkya Rahane scored century as he lead India C to an imposing total against India B in the final of the Deodhar Trophy on Saturday. His 144 combined with Ishan Kishan’s 114 helped India C to 352/7 which proved 29 runs too many for India B.
Chasing the massive target, Shreyas Iyer, the India B captain, emulated his counterpart with a century of his own but his 148 off 114 weren’t enough as his team were bowled out for 323 in 461. overs.
However, in a funny turn of events, Rahane ended up celebrating his century three runs earlier thanks to a scoreboard error at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium which showed 100 runs against his name when he was actually batting on 97.
Having seen the scoreboard, Rahane thought he had completed his century and ended up raising his bat to acknowledge his teammates in the dressing room.
But soon the correction was made as several of his teammates signalled that he was still three runs behind. Suresh Raina stood up and showed him three fingers which, with a sheepish grin, Rahane eventually saw.
He reached his century later on, with a single and this time, there was no confusion. For his match-winning knock, he was also chosen as the Player of the match.
