India left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh scripted history on Wednesday by becoming the highest-wicket taker for the Men in Blue in T20Is. The 25-year-old clinched the record after dismissing both Phil Salt and Ben Duckett in his opening spell. These 2 scalps saw his total reach 97, one ahead than the previous record-holder Yuzvendra Chahal, who has taken 96 wickets in the format.
Speaking after the game, Arshdeep hilariously apologized to Chahal for overtaking his record. In a video posted by BCCI, the seamer was seen holding his ears jokingly, as he apologized Chahal.
Arshdeep reached 97 wickets in the shortest format after featuring in just 61 matches, at an average of 17.90 and at a strike-rate of 13.03. In comparison, Chahal reached 96 wickets after playing 80 matches in the format.
The left-arm seamer finished with brilliant figures of 2/17 in 4 overs and helped India in bundling out England for just 132 runs. The Men in Blue went on to achieve the modest target in just 12.5 overs.

Arshdeep has also been selected in India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy and has a chance to be in the playing XI for multiple matches due to the fitness concerns surrounding experienced pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
