Following Jasprit Bumrah’s outstanding performance with the ball in the first innings of the opening Test between India and England, cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara made a light-hearted request on live TV to his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, asking her to let him play all five Test matches.
Pujara began the chat with Sanjana Ganesan, who is anchoring the pre- and post-match shows for the official broadcaster of the series in India. Gavaskar chimed in, pointing out that there’s sufficient rest between games, so Bumrah should be able to feature in the remaining four Tests.
“I have a request for you. You will have to convince Jasprit to play a few more games. Just try. You are the one who can convince, we leave it to you,” said Pujara on Sony Sports Network.
There is gap. See, there is an eight-day gap, so the next Test is not a problem, and then after that it is Lord’s, you can’t miss Lord’s. After that, again, there is an eight-day gap. Then comes Manchester. In Manchester, the ball will do all kinds of things, whether it is April, May, June, July, August, September, October, or November, the ball will swing in Manchester. Then at The Oval, it is just five days, so all five Test matches. I hope he is watching this. Basically, Jasprit, we need you. Please play all five Tests,” Gavaskar stated.
Later, before the start of play on Day 4 of the first Test, Sanjana Ganesan interviewed Bumrah and relayed the message from Pujara and Gavaskar. In response, Bumrah smiled and said, “That is a conversation we’ll have on another day.”
