Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh go back a long way. Contemporaries from the age-group cricket days in Punjab, both have come up through the ranks and represented India with distinction. While Harbhajan went on to play 100 Tests for India, Yuvraj is set to become only the fifth player for India to feature in 300 or more One-Day Internationals (ODIs). On Thursday, when India take on Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at the Edgbaston, Yuvraj will take field for the 300th time in an ODI. On this occasion, Harbhajan took to Twitter and posted an emotional message for his ‘buddy’ Yuvraj.
Paying rich tribute to him, Harbhajan said that Yuvraj has achieved victory both on field and off it and that the all-rounder is a true champion. Harbhajan also talked about the bond the two have shared over the years and how far they have come in their respective careers; something which they never envisaged. He posted the video with the caption accompanying, “A bond which started more than 20 years ago…special dedication for my brother @YUVSTRONG12”.
“Hello friends. Today, I am going to talk about someone very special, who is very close to my heart – my friend, my brother – Yuvraj Singh,” he said.

“Yuvi is paying his 300th match for India today. It is a big achievement. Congratulations Yuvi for playing all these years and these many games! Kamaal hai yaar! When we were young, we never thought that I would play 100 Tests and you 300 ODI matches. God has been really kind to us! And our friendship has remained the same,” said the champion off-spinner, who has 711 wickets for India across formats.
Harbhajan also wished that Yuvraj gets Man of the Match award in his 300th game and guides India to the finals. “You are a true champion Yuvi! You are a winner both in life and on field (Tune life mei bhi jeet haasil ki hai aur life mei bhi jeet haasil ki hai). And I hope you achieve victory even in your 300th match today and I pray that you are declared the Man of the Match!” he said.
The winner of India – Bangladesh semi-final will go on to meet Pakistan in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on Sunday at The Oval.
