Ishant Sharma was unsold in VIVO IPL Auctions 2018. The experienced pacer headed for a county stint for England’s Division Two County club, Sussex. After a match haul of 5 wickets against Warwickshire in his first game, Ishant now went on to slam his maiden First-Class fifty.
Over the years, Ishant has played gritty knocks for Team India and will be remembered for his partnership with VVS Laxman against Australia in Mohali, 2010 that sealed the Test for India. However, he never reached the landmark as 31* remained his highest score in longer format.
Batting first against Leicestershire, Sussex put up 438 for 8 declared. Ishant slammed 66 runs off 141 balls, an innings that consisted 6 fours and a six. The six was the second of his First-Class career.
He picked the only 2 wickets to fall for Leicestershire, dismissing skipper Michael Carberry and Paul Horton. At the end of Day 2, Leicestershire were 112 for 2, trailing Sussex by 326 runs. Ishant’s bowling figures read 12-4-34-2.
