India veteran pacer Mohammed Shami dropped an easy catch to provide New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra with a massive lifeline in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday.

The opening duo of Will Young and Rachin Ravindra gave a great start to the Kiwis and started building pressure on the Indian bowlers from the beginning.

However, Shami had a huge chance to dismiss Rachin in the seventh over when New Zealand were standing on 47/0. The Kiwi batter ended up chipping Shami’s delivery straight back towards him and it looked like the India pacer will complete an easy catch.

But Shami ended up dropping a sitter and provided Rachin with a big lifeline. Notably, the left-handed Kiwi batter has been in top form in the Champions Trophy and has already scored 2 centuries in the tournament, so this would have been nothing short of a huge wicket for the Men in Blue. However, they failed to get the breakthrough as Shami dropped an easy catch.

The bad news was yet to come for the Men in Blue as Shami seemingly ended up injuring his left hand while trying to take Rachin’s catch. But, the bowler soon made his way back to the field and ended up bowling another over as well.

The seamer was soon treated by a medic and thus had to be taken off the field. Shami will be gutted to miss such an easy opportunity to provide India with a massive breakthrough early in the final. It will be interesting to see if Rachin is able to make the most out of the dropped catch and go on to play a big knock.
