India played their first match of the 2025 Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh, where Najmul Hossain Shanto had won the toss and decided to bat first. Indian team had a strong bowling attack, which caused a steep batting downfall in the Bangladesh side.

By the time 8 overs had passed, Bangladesh team was already 3 players down for just 35 runs. Axar Patel had come in to bowl the 9th over, and took the wicket of Tanzid Hassan on his second ball, followed by the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim in the third.

It was looking like an easy hat-trick opportunity for Axar Patel, as he bowled his 4th ball of the over. In a slightly outside off line, Jaker Ali hit the outside edge, which sent the ball to the slip side. Rohit Sharma was present at the position, and dropped a sitter.

For those unversed, there has been only hat-trick in the history of Champions Trophy, by Jerome Taylor against Australia in 2006. No one has managed to secure this feat since then. This hat-trick by Axar Patel could have become historic feat as Axar could have become the first-ever Indian to secure a hat-trick in Champions Trophy.

The dropped catch was one such catch which was straight to his hands, and the reaction that followed was nothing less than fierce. Rohit was visibly frustrated and as a result hit the ground to vent off some of his aggression. The aggression was valid as the team had missed out on an important wicket.
