Retired international Shahid Afridi turned back the clock with a whirlwind innings of 81 off just 40 balls in Match 6 of Global T20 Canada league for Brampton Wolves against Edmonton Royals on Monday.

Walking in to bat at No.5, the former Pakistan international clubbed ten fours and five sixes en route to an explosive innings that helped his team to a big total of 207/5. Afridi, 39, remained unbeaten with a strike-rate of 202.50.

After Brampton were off to a good start with opener Lendl Simmons hitting 59 off 34 balls and they stumbled in the middle and found themselves at 139/4 in the 15th over. ALSO READ: Global T20 Canada 2019: Yuvraj, Manpreet star in Toronto Nationals first win

But Afridi, who came in to bat in the 11th over, took over as Brampton ransacked 68 runs in the last 35 balls.

With the ball, Afridi was a touch expensive but returned one wicket in his four overs, giving away 31 runs. Edmonton managed 180/9 with Jimmy Neesham, scoring 33 of 18 and Richie Berrington making 28 off 17, Handy contributions from skipper Faf du Plessis (21), Shahdab Khan (27), Sufiyan Sharif (18*) and Kyle Phillip were not enough for Edmonton to avoid defeat.

For Edmonton, Shahdab impressed with the ball as well claiming 3/34 in his four overs, while Ben Cutting returned 2/33 in his four.

A day earlier, Captain Yuvraj Singh and Manpreet Gony starred in a high-scoring encounter as Toronto Nationals recorded their first win of the ongoing Global T20 Canada 2019, beating Edmonton Royals by two wickets.

Toronto chased down 192 in 17.5 overs thanks to Heinrich Klaasen (45 off 39), Yuvraj (35 off 21) and a quickfire 33 off 12 from Gony at CAA Centre in Ontario on Saturday.
