Melbourne: Sydney Thunder‘s Harmanpreet Kaur has been charged for breaching the Cricket Australia (CA) Code of Conduct during her side’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match against the Hobart Hurricanes in Hobart. Harmanpreet, first woman cricketer from India to play in Big Bash, was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.2 abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match a level 1 offence. The offence occurred during the Thunder s batting innings yesterday, after Harmanpreet was dismissed. As per the CA Code of Conduct procedure, the Match Referee, Roy Loh, considered the umpires written report, and the proposed sanction was a reprimand. Harmanpreet accepted the sanction and no hearing was required.
Earlier, after making much news with their maiden appearance in the ongoing season of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Smriti Mandhana and India Women’s T20 International (T20I) captain Harmanpreet Kaur have been called back by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The players have been withdrawn from the high-intensity T20 tournament citing the reason of joining the training camp for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 qualifiers. Each player, before joining the WBBL, had to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective boards which clearly stated that the players can be called back at any certain time for national duty.
