The third Test between India and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground is set for a thrilling final. England set a target of 193 for India in the second innings after both teams scored equally in the first innings. At stumps on Day 4, India found themselves struggling at 58 for 4. They now need 135 more runs to secure victory.
KL Rahul, who smashed a century in the first innings, is currently unbeaten on 33. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck, Karun Nair scored 14, skipper Shubman Gill managed just 6, and nightwatchman Akash Deep was out for 1 by the end of Day 4. Brydon Carse picked up two wickets, while Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes claimed one each.
India will look for a recovery, as Rahul will start the session with a new companion. Ahead of the final day match, England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick gave a warning to India and said their bowlers will wrap up the game in the first hour of the fifth and the final day itself.
“That last hour made it amazing. Everyone was invested, the crowd was behind the team. The buzz around the ground gave the boys a lift,” said Trescothick while addressing the press after the end of the day. “It will revolve around the first hour tomorrow. How positive India are, how dominant India will be,” he said, before adding, “Hopefully we will get six wickets in the first hour tomorrow.”
Earlier in the day, India bowled out England for 192 in their second innings, thanks to an impressive spell by Washington Sundar, who picked up four wickets, conceding 22 runs. Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj grabbed two wickets apiece, while Akash Deep took one.
India made a shaky start during the chase, with Archer sending Jaiswal in the second over. Nair and Rahul steady the innings with a 36 runs partnership, but Carse dismissed Nair
