West Indies opening batsman Adrian Barath was declared fit for the second Test against India to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday.
Barath had sustained a hamstring injury during the first One-Day International against Bangladesh in Mirpur last month.
The Trinidad and Tobago batsman is likely to replace Kieran Powell who struggled in the first Test, scoring 14 and duck.
“I feel match fit and I am eager to play against India. I have worked hard to make a recovery and I want to thank the support staff for the work they have done with me to reach this point,” said Barath on Friday.
“I have been doing a lot of (fitness and recovery) work and I have also been spending a lot of my time in the nets. If I am selected for the upcoming matches I plan to put my head down and look to get a big score for the team.”
The right-handed batsman revealed that it was difficult to watch the West Indies lose the first Test but is gearing up for his opportunity.
“I spent the first Test on the sidelines and I was happy to support the boys as they pushed for a win. It didn’t work out but we played some good cricket in Delhi and we were confident as we prepare for the next game.
I watched closely from the sidelines and I had a good look at the Indian bowlers. I have also been spending a lot of time looking at footage to see what’s happening with the ball and what the bowlers are doing,” said Barath.
The opening batsman believes that the West Indies team has the right ingredients to be successful in the future.
“I have had the honour of being with Desmond Haynes (batting consultant) and Richie Richardson (manager) and you could see the respect people have for them as legends of cricket.
“I believe in this team we have the players who can do well for West Indies and help to take the team forward. As a cricketer and a person, I always like to think long-term and I want to be part of the West Indies team for a long time as we strive to move up the world rankings,” he added.
