West Indies were reeling at a score of 139 for the loss of seven wickets at tea of Day 2 of the third and final Test against England at Barbados on Saturday. Jermaine Blackwood was batting steadily on a score of 67, while James Anderson led the carnage of the West Indian batting order by taking three wickets for just 13 runs in nine overs. The hosts were trailing England by 118 runs at the end of the second session. Updates: West Indies vs England, 3rd Test Day 2 at Barbados

Resuming from their lunch score of 37 for three, the hosts were for another blow when Darren Bravo was dismissed off the third delivery of the second session, getting caught by Chris Jordan off the bowling of Moeen Ali. With danger staring at their faces, it was upto Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood to provide a recovery for their side.

The pair added 45 runs for the fifth wicket, including a few boundaries and a six, as the West Indian hopes began to rise. The stand failed to touch the 50-run mark, with Joe Root getting the big breakthrough for his side once again by inducing Chanderpaul to edge the delivery to the slips, where Jordan held on to a fine catch.

Gary Ballance was taken off the field in the 36th over when he suffered a blow to his wrist from a Blackwood pull while fielding at short-leg. While Ballance ducked his head anticipating the shot, he forgot to protect his wrists.

West Indies were in for two more blows before the end of the second session as skipper Denesh Ramdin and Jason Holder, who played vital roles in the second West Indian innings of the first Test, were dismissed for 13 and five respectively as West Indies lost seven wickets, with more than 100 runs left to catch up with the English total.

James Anderson, the last man out as England’s final three wickets added only 17 more runs to their overnight total, was again the tormentor of the Caribbean top-order. Earlier in the West Indian innings, he dispensed with both openers before adding the important scalp of second Test centurion Marlon Samuels in an outstanding opening spell of bowling.

Brief scores:

England 257 (Alastair Cook 105, Moeen Ali 58; Jerome Taylor 3 for 36) lead West Indies 139 for 7 (Shivnarine Chanderpaul 25, Jermaine Blackwood 67*; James Anderson 3 for 13) by 118 runs.
