Boult and Southee still continue to bowl since the new ball has been taken. Southee bowls a back of a length delivery moving away and Brathwaite edges it past gully for a four. Brathwaite then hits one back to Boult, who takes the catch and ends a long and important innings. Kemar Roach is the next batsman in. Stumps have been taken on Day Two of the second Test. The second new ball has been taken by New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. Boult has been given the new ball first up. Chanderpaul gets off the mark with two runs behind square on the leg side. Southee shares the new ball. He bowls one wide and Brathwaite guides the ball behind point for a four. West Indies reach their 300 in the 83rd over with Chanderpaul getting two runs. Southee and Boult then bowl two maiden overs in-a-row. Brathwaite then drives one off Southee towards extra-cover for two runs.

Craig and Williamson continue to bowl. Williamson flights one and Bravo goes for another lofted drive. He gets a top-edge and Craig takes the catch at straight long-off. He has to depart for a brilliant 109 off 155 deliveries. West Indies need not worry too much as Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the next batsman in.

It is Craig and Williamson who are bowling in tandem now. This is probably a ploy to wait for the second new ball. Craig bowls a wide delivery and Brathwaite hits the ball through extra-cover for two runs. Williamson tosses one up and Bravo plays a lofted drive and gets a six down the ground.

Now Darren Bravo is closing in on a century of his own. He gets two quick runs off Neesham towards deep backward-point. Neesham bowls a full delivery and Bravo plays a delightful cover drive for a four. That gets him into the 90s. Williamson drifts one on the leg side and Bravo flicks the ball for a four towards fine-leg. Bravo pushes one towards short mid-off and completes a single. That gets him his sixth century in Test cricket. Bravo is ecstatic as he runs around the field celebrating.

Welcome back. Sodhi and Southee begin proceedings after the tea session. Bravo hammers a six off Sodhi over wide long-on. He then cuts one through cover for a four. Southee bowls one wide and Brathwaite guides the ball through third-man for a four. Darren Bravo then lofts one off Sodhi over long-on for his second six. Sodhi bowls a full-toss and Bravo pulls the ball for a six over deep square-leg. Brathwaite got to his century with a dab off Kane Williamson towards third-man for a single. This is Brathwaite’s first century in Test cricket.

Sodhi again bowls a tight over giving away only one run in the 60th over. Both batsmen are looking to get to the tea session. Neesham bowl;s a full and wide delivery and Darren Bravo drives the ball through cover for two runs. That is the end of the tea session on Day Two. West Indies trail New Zealand by only 12 runs in their first innings.

Hello everyone. This is Shrikant Shankar and I will be bringing you the live updates for the remainder of the day’s play. Sodhi has been brought back into the attack. He keeps it tight giving away only two runs in the over. Neesham then replaces Craig. Darren Bravo flicks one off the pads for a four towards fine-leg and gets to his ninth half-century in Tests. Neesham bowls a low full-toss and Brathwaite hits it down the ground for a four. West Indies go past the 200-run mark with that four.

Trent Boult now into attack. New Zealand need a wicket here. Darren Bravo though plays a free-flowing stroke over long off for a fine boundary. West Indies are just 35 runs behind New Zealand’s score. They will look to get a huge lead in the first innings.

Bravo playing a lot straighter today and that helps him to collect a boundary off Southee. Why has Southee moved to back to over the wicket? Something that is hard to fathom. Brathwaite plays with closed face and Southee finally bowls an outswinger slightly wide and almost gets him out.

Why isn’t Southee bowling from around the wicket to Bravo? Well he seems to have heard the blogger as he is bowling from around the wicket now. Mark Craig too bowling from around the wicket at the other end and that seems to be a fashion among off-spinners now.

Play has resumed. Southee will resume bowling for New Zealand. He is getting the ball to angle away from Bravo. These Dukes helping Kiwi swing bowlers for sure. Ish Sodhi bowling from the other end. He bowls a long hop and Brathwaite punishes it to the boundary boards. You need to make Brathwaite to play outside off as he closes the face a lot.

Brathwaite is living a bit dangerously with a closed face of the bat while facing Southee. However he survives. Well the rain has arrived with West Indies on 138 for the loss of three wickers. Makes you remember the good old days of 1990s when groundsmen in the Caribbean would rush to the ground with covers. Now who can forget the once mighty West Indies escaping with a draw against England in 1989-90 what with visitors needing just 31 more runs to win at Port of Spain, Trinidad?

Trent Boult back into the attack. He digs a few short ones to Bravo. But the left-hander negotiates it rather well, as Windies end the session with 124 runs for the loss of three wickets on the board. New Zealand would look for more wickets in the second session.

Edwards just like many modern day West Indian batsmen seem to struggle against leg-spin. Ish Sodhi gets one to go past him before catching the edge of his bat. Good bowing by Sodhi and bad batting by Edwards, as he was pushing hard at the ball. Sodhi though then bowls too full and Bravo plays couple of sumptuous strokes. One was a flick shot through mid-wicket and another one down the ground.

Welcome to real Test cricket Mark Craig as he is getting pummelled by Edwards. He also completes a quickfire half century. The ball seems to have gone out of shape with so much of power-hitting as umpires take another ball. Advantage New Zealand on that count. If I was a batsman playing in the middle I wouldn’t have liked it!

Edwards continues to be aggressive. With Neesham bowling short and wide, he plays couple of fine shots square of the wicket on the off-side. With Edwards he is not bad on the back-foot. So why aren’t Kiwis looking to pitch it up to him and get it to move it off the pitch or in the air? Brathwaite too showing that he can play a few shots. He goes after Craig and collects a boundary. Neesham isn’t learning from his mistakes for sure as he continues to bowl short and wide to Edwards.Even Edwards is going after Craig and he smashes him for a six. West Indies have the upper-hand here.

Jimmy Neesham with his medium pacers has come into the attack. Edwards is trying to meet fire with fire. He smashes Neesham for a boundary.West Indies are 60 for 2 after 23 overs. They need this pair to continue with their good work.

Tim Southee opening up Edwards like a can of worms but Edwards survives. Mark Craig into the attack now. The track at Port of Spain certainly helps seamers more these days. Back in the 80s and 90s only when Weest Indies desperately needed to win a Test against Australia in 1995 did they prepare a spicy track with Ambrose running riot.

West Indies started the second day with Brathwaite and the nightwatchman Benn batting. It was Tim Southee who bowled the first over for New Zealand.Southee opens Brathwaite and hits his pads. Immediately goes for lbw appeal only for the umpire to turn it down. New Zealand went for the review it turned out to be an umpire’s call. Boult continues to beat Benn without much success. Trent Boult has to be the most promising swing bowler going around. Heir apparent to Dale Steyn and James Anderson. Finally Benn gets cleaned up by Tim Southee. Kirk Edwards is batting now.

Hello and warm welcome to the live updates of the second day’s play of the second Test played between the West Indies and New Zealand at Port of Spain, Trinidad. This is Bharath Ramaraj and I will take you through the day’s play. West Indies bowled well on the first day and cleaned up New Zealand for just 221 runs on the board. West Indies too lost an early wicket that of Chris Gayle. He was cleaned up by Trent Boult, the swing bowler.

On the first day, West Indies’ bowlers despite catches being dropped bowled incisively to take wickets to at regular intervals. Jerome Taylor took four wickets and he was well supported by others in the line-up. New Zealand will depend on their swing bowlers; Boult and Tim Southee to use the Dukes as a weapon and take wickets. West Indies have already lost the first Test match played at Kingston and they need to win the second Test to make a comeback in the series. On the other hand, New Zealand are looking to win their second Test series in the Caribbean.
