India and England are currently engaged in a three- match Twenty20 International (T20I) series, which the latter are leading 1-0. Soon it became the Eoin Morgan show who, accompanied by Joe Root, brought England to victory. Morgan hit a 38-ball 51, while Root struck a run-a-ball 46 not out, which saw their team win the first T20I by 7 wickets. For India, it was a disappointing day out in the middle. India now face an uphill task to level the series at Nagpur and then move on to win it at Bengaluru, where the third and final T20I is to be played. Virat Kohli, in the post-match press conference, lambasted their batting line-up for the poor show at Kanpur. Kohli also added that England were the better side at Green Park. Kohli’s counterpart Eoin Morgan himself credited the whole team for coming out as the winners after they for the first time on the tour showed a complete performance. Morgan praised the likes of Tymal Mills and Jordan who controlled the flow of runs and picked up crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, the Indian captain on Saturday slipped a rung to No.3 in the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen but his predecessor MS Dhoni gained a position to be at 13th spot in the latest rankings. Rohit Sharma slipped three places to be at 12th, while Shikhar Dhawan was on the joint 14th spot with Englishman Jos Buttler. Roy’s three half-centuries have taken him into the top 20 for the first time as he reached 17th spot. Meanwhile, Kedar Jadhav’s 232 runs in the ODI series have helped him gain 57 places to reach 47th spot in the rankings.
