India and England are currently engaged in a three- match Twenty20 International (T20I) series, which the latter are leading 1-0. The first game of the series was comfortably won by the visitors. The second match will be played at Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Sunday. England bowlers in particular starred with the ball to restrict India to a lowly total of 147 runs at Green Park in the first T20I on a pretty decent track. India were only helped by Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni, who struck meaty blows to get India to this total. For England, it was the combination of Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan who derailed India’s famed batting line-up, picking up 3 wickets in total at a miserly economy.
India ,in their bowling, were met by England’s explosive pair of Jason Roy and Sam Billings who milked the home bowlers for runs without much fuss. Soon it became the Eoin Morgan show who, accompanied by Joe Root, brought England to victory. Morgan hit a 38-ball 51, while Root struck a run-a-ball 46 not out, which saw their team win the first T20I by 7 wickets. For India, it was a disappointing day out in the middle. Their bowlers were taken for plenty. Only bowler to provide some respectability was Yuzvendra Chahal, who nabbed 2 quick wickets in an over; finishing with figures of 2 for 27 (4). Debutant Parvez Rasool was the other wicket taker, snatching Morgan for 51. 2nd T20I, Preview: Men in Blue look to avenge red-hot England to level series

India now face an uphill task to level the series at Nagpur and then move on to win it at Bengaluru, where the third and final T20I is to be played. Virat Kohli, in the post-match press conference, lambasted their batting line-up for the poor show at Kanpur. Kohli also added that England were the better side at Green Park. Kohli’s counterpart Eoin Morgan himself credited the whole team for coming out as the winners after they for the first time on the tour showed a complete performance. Morgan praised the likes of Tymal Mills and Jordan who controlled the flow of runs and picked up crucial wickets.
Root, who scored 46 runs, was happy with his show with the bat and commended the whole team on a terrific show. Kohli also in the press conference made it quite evident that he will open the batting until India’s regular opener Rohit Sharma is back. In hindsight, Kohli also remarked about his love for the No.3 spot and he has no intentions of giving it away in times to come.
Meanwhile, the Indian captain on Saturday slipped a rung to No.3 in the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen but his predecessor MS Dhoni gained a position to be at 13th spot in the latest rankings. Rohit Sharma slipped three places to be at 12th, while Shikhar Dhawan was on the joint 14th spot with Englishman Jos Buttler. Roy’s three half-centuries have taken him into the top 20 for the first time as he reached 17th spot. Meanwhile, Kedar Jadhav’s 232 runs in the ODI series have helped him gain 57 places to reach 47th spot in the rankings.
