Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Subramaniam Badrinath questioned the selectors for taking Ravindra Jadeja in India’s ODI squad for England series and Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Ravindra Jadeja has been taken in the squad along with two other spin-bowling all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.

Jadeja’s selection has come as a surprise, as he has not played an ODI match since 2023 ODI World Cup. Notably, he was not in the squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka in August 2024. Now he has been called back to the squad for both the England ODI series and Champions Trophy.

While the England ODI series is set to begin February 6, Champions Trophy will begin February 19. Along with that, Jadeja being present in India’s squad for both the England series and Champions Trophy has left Badrinath surprised. He has stated that he did not expect Jadeja to be named as there is little place for him in the playing XI.

There are a few spots which are a little bit tricky. I am honestly surprised that Ravindra Jadeja is in the squad. I didn’t expect him to be in the squad because there is very little space for him in the XI. So why would you actually take a player in the squad who might not feature in the actual playing XI? So that is a little bit tricky,” said Badrinath on Star Sports.

It is definitely going to be interesting to see whether Jadeja makes it to India’s playing XI during England’s ODI series and Champions trophy 2025.
