India allrounder Hardik Pandya’s Asia Cup 2018 in the UAE ended after he suffered a lower back injury while bowling against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.

While bowling his fifth over, Pandya fell awkwardly in his follow through and looked in considerable pain which saw the Indian team physio rushing to the middle. After some time, the 24-year-old was stretchered off the ground with the BCCI later confirming his injury.

On Thursday, the BCCI confirmed Pandya’s injury has ruled him out from the rest of Asia Cup with Deepak Chahar being named as his replacement.

Pandya took to social media on Thursday, vowing to make a strong come back. “All your love and support is going to make me come back stronger! Will keep you guys up to date on my recovery. Thank you,” he posted on his Instagram account.

Apart from Pandya, left-arm spinner Axar Patel and right-arm pacer Shardul Thakur have also been ruled out of the tournament. While Axar injured his left index finger while fielding against Pakistan, Shardul Thakur experienced right hip and groin soreness after the Hong Kong contest.

Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja will replace Axar and Siddarth Kaul will take the place of Shardul.

India will face Bangladesh on Friday in their first match of the Super Fours stage and will face Pakistan on Sunday followed by Afghanistan on Tuesday.
