THE CLASH between legendary cricketer Gautam Gambhir and star Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is hailed as one of the most heated and infamous on-field rivalry in cricket. It was visible for the first time during the 2007 ODI series between India and Pakistan.
However, their rivalry took a new turn that won countless hearts of cricket fans. During a Legends League Cricket match between Gautam Gambhir-led India Maharajas and Shahid Afridi’s Asia Lions, both cricketers shook hands and the moment became an instant viral.
Later in the match, Afridi won hearts again as he enquired if Gambhir was okay after the Maharajas captain was hit on the helmet by a ball from Abdul Razzaq
Afridi was recently enquired about his rivalry with Gambhir. His repsonse surprised everyone an depicted the mutual respect between the cricketers despite their history with each other.
“These things go on cricket. It’s normal. And I feel it has been more hyped up in social media. Woh different kisam ka character hain, aam players se thoda alag hain (He has a different character from that of normal players). His reputation is the same in Team India as well. It is not like it was only with me…he…I feel we should discuss more positive things in this show,” said Afridi in a YouTube show ‘Had Kar Di’.
Afridi also praised the exemplary batting skills and said “Very few Indian batters I seen having such good timing with the bat. He is an outstanding player,” added the erstwhile all-rounder.”
