BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has praised the Indian cricket team for their performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia where they finished as runners-up. India, who were unbeaten en route to a maiden final, were handed an 85-run thrashing by defending champions Australia who lifted a record-extending fifth T20 World Cup trophy on Sunday.
Ganguly said Australia outplayed India at the packed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). “Australia played well actually. They outplayed them. In sport there’s always win and loss. But the women’s team have done a great job,” he said.
He had earlier congratulated India women cricket team for making it to the world cup finals. “Well done the Women’s team @bcci @JayShah .. Two back to back World Cup finals .. but we lost .. u we’re super .. we will get there someday .. love the team and players,” Ganguly posted on his official Twitter handle.
He also wished Bengal good luck for their Ranji Trophy final match against Saurashtra that gets underway from Monday. “I wish them luck. I’m looking forward to it,” said Ganguly who made his first- class debut when the two-time champions last won Ranji title in 1989-90.
Ganguly, who is a part owner of Indian Super League team ATK, said this is the best side they have had in six years.
“We have won the title twice but this is the best ATK team in five (six) years. In this format, 0-1 down doesn’t matter actually. We knew we would win. I’m a huge supporter of Habas, he’s ATK’s man,” Ganguly said as he watched ATK thrash Bengaluru FC to setup final date with Chennaiyin FC.
