In the WPL season opener, the defending champions Mumbai Indians extended their winning streak with a thrilling 4-wicket victory. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur shone with a superb knock of 55 runs, while Yastika Bhatia contributed with a top-score of 57 off 45 balls. DC’s Arundhati Reddy and Alice Capsey claimed 2 wickets each, while Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey managed to scalp a wicket each.

In the match opener of WPL 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals posted a total of 171 runs for the loss of five wickets against defending champions Mumbai Indians. Alice Capsey’s notable innings of 75 runs and Jemimah Rodrigues’ contribution of 42 runs added impetus to the side’s innings. Marizanne Kapp’s late surge pushed the capital city side’s total beyond the 170-run mark in the final over. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bowl first against Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals.

The captains of all five teams graced the stage, igniting an electrifying atmosphere within the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of the defending champions Mumbai, took hold of the coveted trophy and placed it at the center stage, followed by the stirring rendition of the tournament’s anthem.
