Bermuda have joined Canada in sealing progress to the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier final after beating USA by four wickets at White Hill Field in Hamilton.

This is hosts Bermuda’s second win over favourites USA in five days, and has eliminated the latter from the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier Americas Regional Finals.

USA registered only one win, over Cayman Islands, in their first four matches which left them battling the odds.

Batting first, USA made 141/9 in their 20 overs with Hayden Walsh top-scoring with 26. For Bermuda, medium-pacer Onais Bascome took three wickets and there were a couple each to George O’Brien, Malachi Jones and Delray Rawlins, the allrounder who also plays for Sussex.

Set a target of 142, Bermuda lost their skipper Terryn Fray for 9 but Okera Bascome and Jones hit 35 and 27 before a wobble ensued. But Deunte Darrell held his nerve to score a career-best 30 not out, which included three sixes. The last one was for the winning runs to put Bermuda in the final.

The T20 World Cup Global Qualifier will be held in the UAE in October.
