Some major changes took place on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table after the Indian team was handed their first-ever Test series whitewash on home soil by New Zealand.

The Black Caps came out on top against the Men in Blue at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and won the series by 3-0. This was also New Zealand’s first ever victory by a series whitewash in away conditions.

The victory saw India lose their top spot on the table and fall to the second place behind reigning champions Australia. In 14 matches played so far in the ongoing cycle, Rohit Sharma’s side has won 8, lost 5 and has drawn a match as well. Their PCT has now dropped to 58.33 in comparison to Australia’s PCT of 62.50.

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar series just got even more important for the Indian team as they cannot afford to lose another Test in their remaining 5 games to reach the WTC final on their own terms. With 5 wins in Australia, India can at best finish on 158 points with a PCT of 69.29.

On the other hand, New Zealand kept their hopes of reaching the WTC final alive as they jumped to the 4th spot on the table with a PCT of 54.55.
