India’s left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal caught everyone off guard by deciding to move from Mumbai to Goa for the upcoming domestic season. The 23-year-old formally requested a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) via email, which was granted, confirming he will no longer represent Mumbai.

However, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer expressed his disappointment with the move, calling Jaiswal’s decision both “surprising and shocking.”

Wasim Jaffer feels that switching from Mumbai is something players usually consider later in their careers, around the age of 34-35, and finds it unusual for someone as young as Jaiswal to make such a move. For context, Jaffer himself had shifted from Mumbai to Vidarbha during his playing days, but that decision came during the final phase of his career.

“I was surprised and shocked for him to go and play for Goa. First of all, whatever Goa was offering him, you don’t leave Mumbai especially at this age, it’s okay if somebody is 34-35 and then you want to go out,” said Jaffer.

“I’m actually surprised. First of all, he shouldn’t be looking at playing in the Ranji Trophy. He should be looking to play for India in all three formats. That should be his focus,” he added.

Earlier, MCA secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed to Hindustan Times that Yashasvi Jaiswal has been granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to join Goa. In a separate conversation with Indian Express, Jaiswal shared that it was the offer of a leadership role from the Goa team that influenced his decision to make the switch.
