Rajagopal Satish is a big figure in Indian cricket. During the ICL days, he also led the Indian side and later played in the IPL. He led Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) to the playoffs and credited mentor Hemang Badani’s role in the campaign. “I am happy that we have reached the play-offs. The boys have worked hard and we have been playing good all-round cricket. Hemang Badani is helping us a lot and we would like to take it one game at a time from here,” said Satish after the CSG’s 6-wicket win over Ruby Trichi Warriors (RTW), which was engineered by ace pacer Yo Mahesh.
The match was played at NPR College Ground in Dindigul, where CSG elected to bowl in a game that was reduced to a 17-over affair. They restricted the Baba Indrajith-led RTW to 132. The captain top-scored with 34 but none of the other batters could convert the starts. Mahesh returned with figures of 3 for 21 from his 3 overs, and he was well supported by Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran who bagged figures of 4-0-27-2.
CSG completed the chase in 16th over. The innings was boosted by two major partnerships: first, openers Gopinath and Thalaivan Sargunam added 63, followed by 59-run stand between Anthony Dhas and Uthirasamy Sasidev for the fourth wicket from just 35 balls.
CSG are now at the second spot in the points table with 10 points. They have notched up 5 wins from 6 games and are behind the unbeaten TUTI Patriots. Meanwhile, RTW have managed only a win from their 5 matches and are placed at the second last spot.
Brief scores:
RTW 132 for 7 in 17 overs (Baba Indrajith 34; Yo Mahesh 3 for 21, Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran 2 for 27) lost to CSG 136 for 4 in 15.4 overs (Thalaivan Sargunam 42, Anthony Dhas 39*) by 6 wickets
