Chennai Super Kings came under heavy criticism after suffering their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing IPL season on Sunday. The five-time champions struggled under pressure while chasing a 183-run target in Guwahati.

Their batting lineup’s lack of firepower was evident in the last two games, both involving 180-plus run chases. With two losses in three matches, CSK currently sits at the seventh position on the points table after match 11 of IPL 2025.

CSK made several changes for their clash against RR after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at their home ground. Jamie Overton and Vijay Shankar replaced Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda for the match, but both failed to perform.

Former India player Aakash Chopra criticized CSK’s playing XI, stating that they have yet to address the issues in their batting lineup after losing the game by just six runs in Guwahati on Sunday.

“CSK, I do not like your playing XI one bit. You are making changes, but change is not necessarily progress. You dropped Sam Curran and played Jamie Overton, but you got Overton to bowl only two overs.” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

“The truth is that you need to address the problem in your batting. It is not getting addressed. It once again came to the fore,” Chopra added

Meanwhile, Chennai made changes to their batting order against the Royals, promoting MS Dhoni to number 7. However, the veteran batter couldn’t take his team to victory, managing only 16 runs off 11 balls. He was dismissed on the first ball of the final over, as CSK fell short by six runs against Rajasthan Royals.
