Younis Khan has asked to not be compared with Pakistan teammate Misbah-ul-Haq, since he is more senior, has greater international experience and is also a more aggressively-styled cricketer. He also cited the difference in age between the two as a factor that doesn’t justify comparison. “I should not be compared to Misbah I am more senior and experienced than him. I am also four years younger than him and my style of playing is more aggressive,” Younis said. The aggressive tone of the statement raises doubts of a potential rift between the two senior pros of the Pakistani side.

Younis also expressed his desire to be given an opportunity to captain the Pakistani side once again prior to retirement — a post that is currently held by Misbah. “If I get a chance to lead the Test team I will definitely accept the challenge once again,” he said.

Younis was captain of the Pakistani side in 2009 across formats and tasted decent success, including victory in the ICC World T20 2009. However, a player revolt in the Pakistani side during the same period left Younis disheartened and he decided to quit the position, but has now revived he desire to lead the side again.

Speaking of Pakistan’s rankings and their possible exclusion from the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England, Younis opined that the national selectors and not players must be questioned for the fate. “If we don’t qualify for the Champions Trophy than questions should be asked off the selectors not players,” he said.
