Pakistan head coach Moin Khan has said that the veteran Younis Khan can make a comeback to the One-Day International (ODI) squad if he maintains his consistency in domestic cricket.
The selectors have persisted with young players and have yet again ignored the experienced Younis, who retired from Twenty20 (T20Is) after leading Pakistan to the ICC World Twenty20 title in 2009, for Asia Cup 2014.
Younis, who retired, has not played in the 50-over format since competing against South Africa a year ago. According to The Dawn, the coach has backed young middle-order batsmen Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal along with openers Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad to give the batting enough strength in the Asia Cup, adding that if there is a gap in the batting lineup, Younis could easily make a comeback.
The selectors however reverted to wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and all rounder Shoaib Malik for the ICC World T20 2014 despite giving both players chances in the past without much success, although Khan backed the decision to recall both players. The World Twenty20 runs from March 16 to the final on April 6, the report added.
