Younis Khan’s fifty guides Pakistan to victory over Afghanistan

A handy fifty by middle-order batsman Younis Khan guided Pakistan to a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the one-off One-Day International (ODI) match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

A handy fifty by middle-order batsman Younis Khan guided Pakistan to a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the one-off One-Day International (ODI) match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

 

Chasing a meagre 196 runs, Pakistan were given a soldi start by opener Imran Farhat who scored 52 runs before being dismissed by Samiullah Shenwari.

 

Dawlat Zadran’s disciplined effort gave some hope to the Afghanistan team as he grabbed two wickets conceding just 38 runs.

 

But a 99-run partnership between skipper Misbah-ul Haq and Younis set a comprehensive victory for Pakistan with 12.5 overs to spare.

 

Earlier, after winning the toss, Afghanistan who decided to bat first made a promising start. Opener Karim Sadiq gave a promising start to Afghanistan innings as he scored 40 runs before being dismissed by Afridi.

 

The Pakistani all-rounder was Afghanistan’s nemesis in the match as he scaled five wickets conceding 36 runs on Friday.

 

Brief Score: Afghanistan 195 (Karim Sadiq 40, Mohammad Nabi 37, Samiullah Shenwari 32; Shahid Afridi 5 for 36, Umar Gul 2 for 30) lost to Pakistan 198 for 3 in 37.1 overs (Younis Khan 70, Imran Farhat 52, Misbah-ul Haq 40; Dawlat Zadran 2 for 38) by 7 wickets.
