Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) explosive batsman, Yusuf Pathan played a quickfire knock of 42 off just 24 deliveries to propel KKR to a commanding total of 170 against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Match 42 of the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday.
Earlier, KKR skipper, Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to bat first. He made a change in the form of Sunil Narine coming in for Ryan ten Doeschate. Delhi Daredevils skipper, JP Duminy made a couple of changes with Manoj Tiwary coming in for Mayank Agarwal and Albie Morkel coming in as well. KKR opener, in the form of Gambhir and Robin Uthappa were off to a steady start. The start included some shaky fielding followed by some missed chances, in the form of a run out for Gambhir and a catching chance to be dropped by Manoj for Uthappa. However, both the openers were able to put up a 38-run stand before Gambhir was dismissed for mere 12 by Zaheer Khan in the fifth over.
It led to the arrival of Manish Pandey and together with Uthappa put up a 25-run stand as they brought up the 50 runs for KKR in the powerplay phase of six overs. Interestingly, out came the next batsman, in the form of Piyush Chawla, who put up a brisk 19-run stand with Pandey, who was dismissed in the 12th over by Yuvraj Singh, who bowled him up, as the score read 82. He was followed by Chawla, who added 26 runs more to the total along with incoming Yusuf, before falling to Albie Morkel after hitting a boundary and a six in the 15th over.
It made way for the hard hitting Andre Russell, and along with Yusuf, they contributed 20 more to the total, as Russel fell to Imran Tahir for mere five at the score of 128 in the 17th over, thus failing to fire again. However, it was Yusuf, who played a quick knock of 42 off just 24 deliveries, including three boundaries and big sixes, before falling to Tahir in the 19th over.
The final pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Johan Botha put up 18-run stand as KKR finished on a commanding total of 171.
