Yuvraj Singh was  conferred with the Padma Shri Award — the fourth highest civilian honour in India on Sunday. Yuvraj was handed over the award by the Home Secretary of the Indian government. Yuvraj posted the image on social networking site Twitter.

It was announced on June 25, 2014 that the Indian cricketer would be bestowed with the prestigious civilian award. 125 other personalities from various walks of life will be conferred with the Padma awards.

The other sportsmen featuring in the list are 22-year-old Dipika Pallikal (squash) and tennis ace Leander Paes. The names were shortlisted by a committee headed by the home secretary from recommendations sent by state governments and important personalities. The India’s highest civilian honours are given in three categories — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri — and they are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
