Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni suggested on Monday, that Indian bowler Zaheer Khan, who has been rested after the tour of Australia, should take the job of the bowling coach later when he retires.
“Yes I want all my bowlers to be fit. Zaheer is an excellent bowler, a match-winner and guides our bowlers whenever he is on tour. I suggest, whenever he chooses to retire, he should be given the responsibility of India’s bowling coach,” Dhoni said.
Joe Dawes, who has been appointed as the new bowling coach of India, didn’t arrive with the team ahead of India’s Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka.
When asked about the new bowling coach, captain Dhoni seem to be unsure about the former Australian cricketer’s arrival.
“Honestly, I don’t know when he is arriving. But I think he will be here for the Asia Cup. However, I can give no guarantee. As per my knowledge, I know he is coming here,” Dhoni was quoted as saying by MiD-Day.
Dhoni mentioned that he had no role in the appointment of Dawes as the bowling coach.
Dawes was appointed the bowling coach of the national team after South African cricketer Eric Simons’ term expired last month.
“I really do not know who recommended his name. I do not provide any inputs in such cases,” Dhoni concluded.
