Monday was a happy day for Zaheer Khan and his ladylove Sagarika Ghatge, as the couple announced their engagement to the world. The lovebirds, who were rumoured to be a couple for a long time after their appearances at social events and even Yuvraj Singh’s wedding, finally made their relationship public by announcing through their social media handles. However, what ensued will take you aback. Delhi Daredevils (DD), Zaheer’s Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, made a goof-up while congratulating the couple on Twitter. Furthermore, Zaheer’s former teammate and current Team India head coach Anil Kumble also made the same blunder.
It all started with DD’s official Twitter handle congratulating the couple. The tweet, which was later withdrawn, read as follows:
However, with the twitterati soon pointing out their mistake and trolling them, DD deleted the tweet and posted a new one. They also posted a corrigendum, which read as:
Heartiest Congratulations to our #Dilliboy @ImZaheer & #Sagarikawishing this beautiful couple a spectacular life ahead! pic.twitter.com/vOySkmsKLs
— Delhi Daredevils (@DelhiDaredevils) April 24, 2017
We were so elated by the news that we got carried away. Apologies for the miscommunication. We wish the fine couple a great life ahead.

Later, Kumble made the same mistake.
He too, like DD, deleted the erroneous tweet posted the correct one.
Congratulations @ImZaheer and @sagarikavghatge! Wishing you the very best! https://t.co/pMadS7wHo2
— Anil Kumble (@anilkumble1074) April 24, 2017
Though it was not a small mistake on DD’s and Kumble’s part, their intentions could not have been questioned. Hence, showing immense maturity to deal with the situation and sense of humour as well, noted journalist Sagarika Ghose, who was mistakenly dragged into this episode, replied in a light-hearted manner. She, as a matter of fact, trolled herself. He tweet read:
oops wrong Sagarika, sirs! Main do bachche ki ma hoon https://t.co/37wH9INQZP
— Sagarika Ghose (@sagarikaghose) April 24, 2017
Sagarika too has a cricketing connection. Her husband Rajdeep Sardesai, himself an acclaimed journalist, is son of former Indian cricketer Dileep Sardesai.
While these are happy times for Zaheer at the personal front, his team DD needs to pull up their socks in the ongoing edition of IPL. With 2 wins from 6 games, they are currently at the 6th spot in the points table.
