Zimbabwe reached 163 for three at tea on Day Two of the first Test match against Pakistan at Harare on Wednesday.
Malcolm Waller struck his third Test fifty to bring momentum back to the hosts side. He hit 13 boundaries in a 79-ball unbeaten 62.
Earlier, in their first innings, Pakistan were bowled out for 249 with Tendai Chatara cleaning up Saeed Ajmal on 49, to deny the Pakistan batsman a well-deserved half-century.
Ajmal struck six boundaries and a hit over the fence to score a valuable 49, which helped Pakistan post a respectable first innings total. For Zimbabwe, Chatara and Tinashe Panyangara claimed three wickets each.
Zimbabwe began on a confident note with their openers Mawoyo and Sibanda adding 25 runs for the first wicket after nine overs, before Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan got Mawoyo caught by Adnan Akmal for 13.
Earlier on the first day, Zimbabwe’s unheralded bowling attack plunged Pakistan into deep trouble. Pakistan were floundering at 182 for eight before tailenders Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan added an aggressive 67 for the ninth wicket to enable the tourists to finish the day on 249 for nine.
