Sean Williams brought up a hard-fought half-century during the eighth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup match between Pool B teams Zimbabwe and United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Saxton Oval in Nelson on Thursday. Williams brought up the milestone in only 42 deliveries, as he shared a crucial 72-run sixth wicket stand with Craig Ervine to pull Zimbabwe out of trouble after they were 167 for five at one stage, while chasing the 286-run target set by the UAE. Live Scorecard: Zimbabwe vs UAE

UAE had earlier fought their way to a challenging total of 285 for the loss of seven wickets at the end of their innings after Zimbabwe put them to bat, with Shaiman Anwar and Khurram Khan propelling the innings with knocks of 67 and 45 respectively. UAE were off to a slow start, with Amjad Ali departing early.

It was Khurram who formed a vital third-wicket partnership worth 82 runs to put their side in control. Another 82-run stand, this time a much faster one in terms of balls faced, was put up for the fifth wicket between Anwar and Swapnil Patil, which set the foundation for the late blitz that was follow. Live Updates: Zimbabwe vs UAE

At 232 for seven, a 250-plus total was looking like a tough prospect. The lower-order pair of Ajmad Javed (25) and Mohammad Naveed (23) however, joined hands to put up a quickfire 53-run stand off 35 balls to help guide their side to their highest ODI total of all time. Among the Zimbabwe bowlers, Tendai Chatara emerged most successful, finishing with figures of three for 42 in 10 overs. ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: SCHEDULE & MATCH DETAILS
