Zimbabwe lost half of their side with the dismissal of Solomon Mire off the bowling of Mohammad Naveed. Mire was dismissed when trying to play a delivery that was pitched well outside off, and ended up gifting a comfortable catch to wicket-keeper Swapnil Patil for Naveed to collect his first wicket of the match. UAE had earlier fought their way to a challenging total of 285 for the loss of seven wickets at the end of their innings after Zimbabwe put them to bat, with Shaiman Anwar and Khurram Khan propelling the innings with knocks of 67 and 45 respectively. It was Khurram who formed a vital third-wicket partnership worth 82 runs to put their side in control. Another 82-run stand, this time a much faster one in terms of balls faced, was put up for the fifth wicket between Anwar and Swapnil Patil, which set the foundation for the late blitz that was follow.
