All teams line up for photo shoot in World Cup 1979

The teams gathered and posed for photographs in Lord’s, London on June 8 and the following day in the tournament opener India played West Indies in Birmingham.

Patrick Eager captures all the cricketers participating in the cricket World Cup in 1979 in one frame a day before the start of the tournament. The teams gathered and posed for photographs in Lord’s, London on June 8 and the following day in the tournament opener India played West Indies in Birmingham. India were thrashed by nine wickets by the strong West Indian side, who eventually went on to win the cup.

In the above photograph, we see the eight teams with their respective captains standing in the front row. From left, the captains are: Anura Tennekoon from Sri Lanka, Asif Iqbal from Pakistan, Clive Lloyd from West Indies, Mike Brearley from England, Mark Burgess  from New Zealand, Srinivas Venkataraghavan from India and Bryan Mauricette from Canada.
