‘carbon copy of Virat…’: Former England batter makes Massive statement about India’s Test captain Shubman Gill

Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott has praised India's Test captain Shubman Gill, stating that his centurial knocks at Edgbaston Tests were nice sight to witness.

Former England star batter Jonathan Trott believes that he is very lucky to have witnessed current Indian Teat captain Shubman Gill’s double century along with another century in the second innings in the Edgbaston Test. He believes that the youngster shows a shade of batting maestro Virat Kohli.

Shubman Gill scored 269 runs and 161 runs in the two innings, and has the second highest individual score in a single Test match (430 runs). He is behind former England skipper Graham Gooch.

Today, he showed how complete a batter he is. It reminded me of the previous Indian number four — almost a carbon copy of that genius. I don’t think he could’ve dreamed of a better start to his first two Tests on this tour. Sure, he’d have liked to win at Headingley, but now he’s hopefully set up a fantastic victory here tomorrow,” Trott told JioHotstar.

I honestly feel privileged to be here and witness that innings. I can’t recall him giving the English bowlers even a single chance. The way he shifted gears — hitting sixes at will — without slogging, just pure cricket shots, was something special,” he added.

Jonathan Trott was a top-order batter for England. His international career began in 2007 and lasted till 2015. He is currently the coach of Afghanistan team, and even led the team to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024.
