Doubts loom over England’s star pacer being present in 1st Test match against India: Report

The England team for the upcoming five-match Test series against India might face a great shock, as their star pacer Gus Atkinson's involvement in the series is under threat because of an injury.

The involvement of England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson being present for the 1st Test match against India- set to begin June 20- is under doubts. According to a report, the pacer is suffering from a hamstring injury. India and England are going to face each other in a five-match Test series, set to begin June 20. This series is going to mark the beginning of the World Test Championships 2025-27 for both the teams.

Bowler Gus Atkinson is a doubt for the first Test against India later this month because of a right hamstring strain – adding to England’s injury concerns among their seamers,” a report in BBC read. The 27-year-old sustained the injury during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month, which eventually ruled him out of the recently-concluded ODI series against West Indies. If talking about Gus Atkinson, he has taken three five-wicket hauls in 12 Test matches, and is still a dependable player from the England’s bowling attack. If Atkinson fails to recover in time, it is going to give a massive shock to England, are they are already struggling because of Mark Wood and Olly Stone being injured. Adding to their tensions, Jofra Archer returning to Test cricket is also delayed because of a thumb injury.

India’s Test squad has also witnessed a change, as veteran players R Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the format. Shubman Gill was announced as the captain of the new team, along with Rishabh Pant as his deputy. Indian team will tour England in five different venues.
