End of track for Karun Nair? Selectors’ India A move sparks speculation on Test future

Karun Nair had a disappointing outing for India in England, and now has been dropped from India A squad, which has led to speculations being made on end of his Test career.

India A squad for two unofficial four-day matches against Australia A got announced recently, where Karun Nair was one specific name which was not looked upon. This move by the selectors has led people thinking whether Karun might have played his final match in the national jersey. Though Karun recently sported the national jersey after almost 9 years, now it looks like he has fallen off.

Karun Nair was once considered a strong player for the long-format route, but he did not impress in the recent tour of England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as he managed to score just one 50+ score in six innings. Now, being excluded might be the biggest hint of going down from the eyes of selectors.

It was highly believed that Karun Nair would feature for India A in order for a rebuilding phase of the longer-format of the game, adding to the fact that the home Test season is right around the corner. But, with him now being excluded seems like an unofficial ed to his career.

It is, however, an important thing to point that Karun Nair had also hurt his finger in the last Test he played at the Oval in ENgland. Due to that very injury, he also had to miss the entireity of Maharaja T20 League. Was this injury a factor in his exclusion has not been confirmed, this has not been yet confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
