Dewald Brevis, a South African batter, joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) mid-season as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. He played six matches in IPL 2025 but made a significant impact in only a few of them, finishing the season with 225 runs. The 22-year-old struck two half-centuries at a superb strike rate of 180.00.
Brevis has played across three IPL seasons so far, representing two different teams: CSK and the Mumbai Indians. The young batter reflected on his time in the tournament and described the experience as “incredible.”

“I’ll always remember like, whenever I tell people it’s amazing. I had amazing times, my four years [in IPL]. It was incredible,” Brevis said on AB de Villiers’ YouTube channel.

Brevis also spoke about his experience of playing with MS Dhoni in IPL 2025. He said Dhoni is humble both on and off the field and always makes time for his teammates.
“And I had to go through all of the journey like it’s been beautiful, and the one thing that I can just say from MS [Dhoni] is his humbleness and who he is as a person that stood out for me. How he is basically off the field, the time he has for players, for people,” Brevis stated.
“His room door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. And I found myself a few times in his room just sitting there with whatever he’s busy like chatting to him about his hobbies, watching cricket, and yeah, that’s just amazing and just to see how what he does like off the field and like everyone knows what he does on the field and at training and yeah just it’s very special,” he added.
Meanwhile, Brevis has been in the news for his outstanding performance with the bat in a three-match T20I series against Australia. The 22-year-old showed outstanding maturity, scoring 125 runs in Darwin and then adding 53 in the following game in Cairns.
Although Australia won the series 2-1, Brevis’ batting displays are likely to keep him in South Africa’s T20I squad for future short-format matches.
