‘How we use him is…’: Indian coach puts an end to Workload comparisons between Jasprit Bumrah and Ben Stokes

India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate put an end to the debates about workload management between Jasprit Bumrah and Ben Stokes.

Since England captain Ben Stokes bowled two fierce spells on the final day of the Lord’s Test against India, there has been constant comparison between him and Jasprit Bumrah for their workload. Even former pacer Irfan Pathan praised the Ben for not thinking too much about future and just think about ensuring team’s victory.

Irfan Pathan also stated that the Indian team management failed to execute the same thing that is being done for Ben Stokes and that they have failed Bumrah even though he was rested for the Edgbaston Test.

That was super impressive for Ben to come out on their last day and bowl the amount of overs he did with the intensity he did, and obviously bats and fields as well. We’re not here to compare our bowlers to individuals from other teams. We have our own strengths. We know what Jasprit particularly does in spells, in shorter spells, which he prefers bowling in,” Ryan said.

Using Mohammed Siraj as an example, Ryan ten Doeschate stated that the team management uses Jasprit Bumrah to the best of his ability, while also highlighting that the captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir know what they are doing.

And when the time’s right, and what I alluded about Siraj, some bowlers are like that. You get the best out of them in their seventh, eighth and ninth over, but not everyone has to be the same as that. And we feel that in consultation with Jasprit, how we use him is the best way for the team,” ten Doeschate said.
