‘I don’t want to…’: Jasprit Bumrah himself opens up about giving up about captaincy role of the Indian Test team
Jasprit Bumrah was not named the Test captain of India after Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format. Now, Bumrah has himself opened up about not being given the leadership role.
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was one of the top contenders for India’s Test captaincy when Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the format. However, he missed out on being named as the leader. Now, Bumrah has himself shared about the issue.
Ahead of the five-match Test series against England- set to begin June 20, Jasprit Bumrah had an interview with former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on SkySports, where he revealed that he withdrew his name himself.
“Before Rohit and Virat retired during the IPL, I had spoken to the BCCI about my workloads going forward in a five-test match series. I’ve spoken to the people who have managed my back.” Bumrah said.

“I’ve spoken to the surgeon as well, who’s always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. So I did speak to him, and then we came to the conclusion that I have to be a little smarter. So then I called the BCCI and said I don’t want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won’t be able to give all the Test matches in a five-test match series,” Bumrah added
For those unversed, Jasprit Bumrah had been dealing with injuries for a long while, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that he won’t appear in all five matches of the upcoming series against England.
