IN PICS: India vs Australia, 1st Test: Day 2

Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets in his 33 overs going for 50 runs.

Usman Khawaja and debutant Marcus Harris then tried to steady the innings, but just as Harris was settling down, Ashwin struck to send him back for 26 as Australia were two down at lunch. (Twitter)


Ashwin returned in the second session to see the back of the underperforming Shaun Marsh, who edged it back onto the stumps while going for a drive and departed for 2.


The Tamil Nadu tweaker took his third wicket – an important one of Khawaja — who added 28 to the total, this after facing 125 deliveries.

Peter Handscomb and Head’s 33-run partnership for the fourth wicket was ended by Jasprit Bumrah. Handscomb was enticed to go for the drive but ended up nicking it behind to Rishabh Pant to give Bumrah his first Test wicket in Australia.


Australia captain Tim Paine added just 5 after his innings was brought to an end by Ishant, who took his second wicket.


Pat Cummins did well to support Head, who scored 61 off 149 balls with six boundaries, but Bumrah ended the vital partnership with trapping Cummins leg before for 10.


At stumps, Head had Starc for company with the duo looking to close out the deficit on Day 3.


On a day that belonged to the Indian bowlers and Ravichandran Ashwin at the Adelaide Oval, Travis Head’s unbeaten 61 ensured Australia hung in there to end day two at 191/7 still trailing by 59 runs. (Twitter)
