IN PICS: IPL 2019, DC vs RCB, Match 46

Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 16 runs and became the second team after Chennai Super Kings to make it to the IPL 2019 playoffs.

With this win, DC became the second side after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to make it to the playoffs. @BCCI

While Shaw could not prolong his stay in the middle, Shikhar Dhawan just took off from where he had left in the last game against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The left-hander was key as Delhi Capitals, despite losing a wicket, raced to 59 in the powerplay, with Dhawan scoring more than half of those runs. Dhawan went on to score his third successive fifty. @BCCI

Parthiv Patel set the ball rolling for RCB as the wicketkeeper-batsman took on the DC bowlers. The left-hander scored 39 off 20 balls as RCB, chasing 188 runs to win, were on a roll in the powerplay, with Parthiv dominating the proceedings. @BCCI

While Marcus Stoinis and Gurkeerat Singh Mann offered some hope as they went after Ishant Sharma in the 17th over, scoring 16 runs, DC did not let that swing the momentum in RCB’s favour as Rabada, who conceded just 15 runs in his last two overs, and Ishant himself kept things tight in the last three overs to seal DC’s 16-run win. @PTI

However, DC were pushed on the backfoot as the spin-bowling duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar dismissed Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Iyer in quick succession. DC lost three wickets for 26 runs to be reduced to 129/4. @BCCI

RCB, though, failed to make the most of this as DC overcome the mid-innings wobble, courtesy Sherfane Rutherford and Axar Patel, and scored 46 runs from the last three overs bowled by Marcus Stoinis, Umesh and Navdeep Saini and went on to put 187 runs on the board. @BCCI

RCB though managed to keep the game alive as AB de Villiers and Shivam Dube put on a 35-run partnership. However, RCB’s joy did not last long as DC derailed their chase scalping three wickets – de Villiers, Heinrich Klaasen and Dube – in space of 2 overs, conceding only 10 runs. While Rutherford dismissed de Villiers after Axar took a stunning catch, Amit Mishra got the other two wickets. @BCCI

Like Dhawan, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer too notched up a fifty. The right-hander scored 52 off 37 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes. He and Dhawan put up a 68-run stand for the second wicket and denied RCB any immediate success after Shaw’s fall. @BCCI

Opting to bat, Delhi Capitals (DC) lost Prithvi Shaw in the fourth over as Umesh Yadav struck in his second over to give Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) their first breakthrough. Shaw was looking in good touch but got out after scoring 18 runs off 10 balls as Parthiv Patel took a catch behind the wickets. @BCCI

However, DC pulled back the things quickly as RCB lost Parthiv and skipper Virat Kohli in space of five runs, one on the penultimate ball of the powerplay and the other soon after that. While Kagiso Rabada dismissed Parthiv, Axar got Kohli out for 23. @PTI
