IN PICS: IPL 2019, KKR vs RCB, Match 35

Kohli, Moeen trump Russell, Rana as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs

While RCB were struggling at 70/2 after 10 overs, Kohli and Ali’s counterattacking stand of 90 runs paved way for RCB crossing the 200-run mark, scoring 143 runs in the last ten overs of the innings. @BCCI

Sunil Narine struck early to give KKR their first breakthrough as the tweaker dismissed Parthiv Patel for 11 in the fourth over after Nitish Rana completed a catch despite the wobble. @BCCI

Virat Kohli, who played sensibly as Ali went berserk, took the matters in his own hands following the Englishman’s departure. The RCB skipper notched up his first hundred of the season and fifth overall, before getting out on the final ball of the RCB innings. @BCCI

While Heinrich Klaasen and Dale Steyn featured in the playing XI, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were without the services of AB de Villiers as the former South African skipper was ruled out of the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to the mild concussion he suffered in RCB’s last game against Mumbai Indians. @BCCI

Moeen Ali, who had notched up a fifty in the last game against Mumbai Indians, then turned the tables on KKR. The left-hander was severe on the spinners and took Kuldeep Yadav to the cleaners, hitting him three sixes and two fours in the 16th over before getting out for 66 off 28 balls. @PTI

Although Dale Steyn’s perfect IPL return was spoilt as Marcus Stoinis dropped Chris Lynn on the first ball of the KKR chase, the South African speedster dismissed Lynn on the final ball of the first over, before adding Shubman Gill’s wicket to his tally. While his final over went for 18 runs, it did not change the result of the match. @BCCI

While KKR were reduced to 33/3 in chase, Nitish Rana kept the home team alive even as Robin Uthappa struggled to up the ante. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 85, hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes, and tried his best to power to KKR to a victory. @BCCI

Russell, who has set the IPL 2019 on fire with his batting, was once again on a roll. The Jamaican hammered 65 off 25 deliveries, hitting 9 sixes and 2 fours as he took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. @BCCI

While KKR looked down and out, Rana and Russell put up 118-run stand in 48 balls. Although it was RCB, who won the game by 10 runs, the pair’s heroics almost helped KKR snatch a win from the jaws of defeat. @BCCI

Moeen, who had earlier set the tone for RCB’s counterattack, managed to hold his nerve, bowling to Russell in the final over. While the big-hitting West Indian hit him for a six, Moeen managed to bowl a couple of dot balls as RCB registered their second win of the season. @BCCI
