David Warner and Jonny Bairstow scored glittering half-centuries as Sunrisers Hyderabad steamrolled Kolkata Knight Riders to register a comfortable nine-wicket win.

Bairstow, like Warner, took 28 balls to bring up his second fifty of the season. He clubbed seven fours and four maximums to top score for Sunrisers with an unbeaten 80 off 43 and finished the proceedings hitting Chawla for 16 off three balls. (BCCI Image)

Oddly enough, Andre Russell was once again held back by KKR at the No. 7 position. So by the time he came out to bat, just three overs remained. He smoked a couple of sixes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar but the fast bowlers returned to get his man the next ball, capping off a rare failure for the big West Indian. (BCCI Image)

KKR bowled splendidly in the death, led by legspinner Rashid Khan, who finished with 1 for 23. He conceded just one run in the 18th over picking up the wicket of Piyush Chawla before a couple of lusty blows in the final over from debutants KC Cariappa and Yarra Prithviraj got KKR near 160. Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the Sunrisers bowlers finishing with 3 for 33 from four overs. The left-arm fast bowler broke KKR’s breezy opening stand by cleaning up Narine with a slower delivery and used the same trick to dismiss Shubman Gill. (BCCI Image)

Chris Lynn top-scored for KKR with 51 but his innings unfolded at a concerning strike-rate of 108. Opening the innings, Lynn’s fifty arrived in the 17th over off 41 balls before Khaleel added a third wicket and sent him back. Surprisingly, Lynn hit just four boundaries and one six. (BCCI Image)

After Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bowl, Kolkata Knight Riders were off to a solid start with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine adding 42 runs in just 16 balls. Narine was off the blocks and scored a cameo of 25 off 8 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes. (BCCI Image)

Bairstow and David Warner launched an all-out assault and brought up their fourth century-plus stand of the season. Both pummelled rapid half-centuries to put the Sunrisers chase on track. (BCCI Image)

David Warner was once again in marauding form. He smoked fives sixes and three boundaries en route to scoring 67 off 38 balls – his sixth half-century of the season – and extended his tally to 517 runs and counting this season. (BCCI Image)

KKR were sloppy on the field. Cariappa denied Prithviraj a wicket in just the second over of the innings when he put Bairstow down at deep point. To add to Prithviraj’s misery, Piyush Chawla also put down Bairstow to go with a third one from Harry Gurney, before the bowler took matters in his own hands and dismissed David Warner for his maiden IPL wickets.
