India’s hopes of recording their maiden Test victory at Edgbaston went up in smokes as they lost their last five wickets for the addition of 62 runs on Day 4 against England to concede a 0-1 lead to the hosts in the five-match series.

Here’s a recap of how India crumbled on the penultimate day:-

The day couldn’t have begun on a better note for England and a worse for India. James Anderson induced an edge from overnight batsman Dinesh Karthik off the sixth delivery of the first over and he was caught at the second slip on 20. (Getty Images)

Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya then got together to ride out the storm together. Kohli went on to complete his 17th Test half-century. (Getty Images)

With the pair settling in, having added 29 runs, Joe Root brought Ben Stokes into the attack and he changed the complexion in his very first over. (Getty Images)

He first had Kohli trapped in front lbw on 51 and then got rid of Mohammed Shami (0) to reduce India to 141/8. (Getty Images)

Ishant Sharma survived 15 deliveries as Pandya took India’s total past the 150-run mark. (Getty Images)

But Root brought Adil Rashid and he pinned Ishant in front on 11 to put England on brink. (Getty Images)

And fittingly, Stokes removed Pandya (31) to finish with 4/40 as India were bowled out on 162 and England sealed a 31-run win at Edgbaston. (Getty Images)
